POLYCOSM aims to bring you high quality tutorials looking into concept creation from a 2D -AND- 3D perspective; taking a concept from a rough sketch and turning it into a fully visualized 3D model.
The channel is run by Freelance Artists Christina Myrvold and Omercan Cirit who both work in the entertainment industry on a full-time basis.
We want to show you how to come up with creative ideas, use reference efficiently and how to generate different concepts in the 2D stage that can be then interpreted by a 3D artist in a full, detailed production pipeline. Lastly, we want to share technical tips and tricks, showcase different 2D and 3D workflows and just create awesome art together!
If you’re interested in purchasing any of the 3D models made in our videos, or want to download some freebies, make sure to visit our online store: sketchfab.com/POLYCOSM

-------
In this week's POLYCOSM video, I demonstrate how to model a key device in Blender, specifically designed to serve as a reference for a Clip Studio Paint comic panel. This video is part of a collaboration with Clip Studio Paint, and in their video we explain how to add Shape Keys animation to the model in Blender, and how to use the new Shape Keys feature in CSP to enhance the reference model's functionality.

thank you! :)
One thing I worry about Modeler is that some tools have better behavior in VR than desktop. Warp tool is one of these, 6 dof freedom in VR. But I have motion sickness with VR, the headless mode seems very difficult to configure. Using Modeler with desktop only seems like not a good idea...
Yeah, I definitely wouldn’t use Md if it was a Desktop version only. I sculpt primarily in VR and wouldn’t use it any other way. Have you tried Md with VR? I’ve heard of a lot of people with motion sickness have no issue with Md ☺️
It does not work in Blender 4.0 😢
Awesome, very thanks for the tips
Wow... Simple amazing. Thanks for sharing it.
waw <3
A-MA-ZING! precisely what I was looking for, many thanks!
Awesome video, that clay frame made me cringe. Glad cameras are useful ;) Your workflow is one I love and relate to so much.
Thanks Claire! So glad cameras have finally been added 🥰🙌
Nice to watch this (spoiler alert: I'm from the Substance 3D team)! Also got aphasia, so I can really rely on this video 🙂
Eyy! Thanks for watching the video ☺️ So many people are commenting they have Aphantasia, it’s funny how we all naturally gravitated towards 3D 😄
@@POLYCOSM maybe because it's somehow easier to itzerate on your work (?). I have a really bad sense of proportion and really need the reference to adjust properly, which feels more natural in 3D (and in Modeler) to me
Amazing! Which VR headset did you use?
Thanks! I have both a Pico 4 and Quest 2, but would recommend the Quest 3 if to anyone wanting to get into VR ☺️ I mostly use my Pico 4 for all my work.
WHAT VR HEADSET DO YOU HAVE?
I have both a Pico 4 and Quest 2, but would recommend the Quest 3 if you’re getting into VR ☺️ I mostly use my Pico 4 for all my work.
Great work! Thanks for the update and I'm definitely more interested in this workflow!
you know? thats was a very interesting video, missed the videos here and I didn´t know of this term bephore, aphantasia, that could explain one of the many things that I have in my head, like I mean, I always have a lot of ideas in my mind, thousands of ideas but they are not "visible" dont know if I am explaining myself, whene Im doing a project I have some loose ideas but I dont have a clear image in my mind, is the same? Anyway is always great to see new stuff in here
Glad you liked the video! You might have Aphantasia 😊 A lot of people can actually literally visualize full scenes in their head quite clearly. See what colour shirt someone has, what the fabric is like, their face in full detail. I still get ideas and I’m still creative, but I’m always bound to references cause I can’t retain visual information in my head, and anything I draw without refs comes out wonky as hell lol
@@POLYCOSM it dephynitelly fit with one of the thigs that I have, but I though it was normal, the usual stuff.... That was really really interesting
I really enjoy your videos and love the work you both do it's very inspirational. Thank you!
Aw, thanks Eric!! 🥰

Thanks so much for this....I`ve been using OCD and wasnt sure about buying this addon but it definitely looks worth it.
Very very usefull for me 😁
Amazing work!
Marvolous! Thank you for showing the sheer power that is a normal map!😄
For the tongue, click the gear icon for the tongue where you move it and turn off LIMITS and then you can stick it out as far as you wish.
You are very beautiful😂
wooaahhh
I honestly had no idea you could export as an OBJ in Daz. That alone helped so much! Thank you!
Thanks for making these!
I am new to Blender and I am trying to learn basic human rig. Do you know of any good tutorial?
How would you use both add ons together?
Amazing! thanks!
You can stay in the random flat colour mode, if you don't like the colour (or several same colours are given to different objects), just add any letter or number to the object name and the colour will change to another, and so on until you find the colour you want (the colour is generated based on the object name). You can also combine several objects into one shape (ctrl+j) and the last object that was selected during the merging will take this colour for the entire group of objects. I also recommend that in the settings at the bottom where "color management" there is an option "use curves", turn on this option and drag the centre point down, thus immediately increasing the contrast of colours (which will reduce the chances that Photoshop will get confused in similar colours).
still coming back to this tutorial years later. thank you!
nem intendo ingles direito, mas vídeo foda gostei me ajudou muito
Thank you! This video was very inspiring and helpful!
Helpful tutorial😊❤
I'm currently in the process of writing an application that is specifically for this purpose. It will display your model with just albedo and watch your .kra or .psd file for changes and automatically update on the fly. I'm looking to give it a slim look like PureRef and the ablity to always stay on top so you can also have it on the same screen if needed. I'll be working on some other tools in it like helpers for painting cubemaps for skyboxes, among some of my favs. If you're interested in trying it out once I have a version for testing, let me know how I can reach you and I'll set you up! Would love to get some feedback.
Hi Nick, that sounds awesome!! I would absolutely be up for testing it and giving you some feedback 😄
@@POLYCOSMAwesome, I'm glad you find it interesting. What's a good way to get in touch? I don't normally message people on youtube :) so I don't know if there's a direct way here.
You can email me at polycosm.contact@gmail.com ☺️
@@POLYCOSM Hey again, I sent over an email a couple of days ago regarding the tool I'm working on. Please let me know if you didn't get it and I can send again. Would love to send it your way and see if you find it useful.
Hi @NickEnchev ! You’ve caught me during a very busy period, but I plan to respond to your email as soon as I can, apologies for the delay! 😊
Wow this is actually amazing result's ! Thank you for sharing
Can i Apply these settings on like an downloaded model like from sketchfab ?
Wow, absolute lifesaver, thank you so much!!
I'm trying to load the setting file, but where i can find the .json file ?
ALT R isnt working, how can i fix that?
3 years later and this video came in clutch
You don't actually need a shader at all. If you plug an image texture node directly into the material output you will get an unshaded material that ignores lighting without becoming a light source itself. Another option, if you need to export things to a game engine using a PBR setup, is to just use a principled shader with roughness at 1.0. When paired with a white environment set to a strength of 1.0, you will get a similar result to unshaded that can still interact with lighting.
🦦 Blender ASMR 😮 that must be heaven 🙏💖🐬
How is your viewport looking black and white while mine have gray and soft shadows? I already disabled soft shadow. Great tutorial
